Work back from the time you want to eat
Thanksgiving from scratch is a timing problem more than a cooking problem. This planner starts with your dinner time and works backward: when the turkey goes into the fridge to thaw, when it goes into the oven, and what every oven and burner is doing in each half hour of the day. Fill it in on screen or print it and use a pencil.
What's inside, 12 pages
The countdown
Three weeks out to the day itself, one tick at a time, so the shopping, the make-aheads and the fridge space happen before the rush.
Menu and scaler
Write each dish, who makes it and how many it serves, and scale it to the size of your table. Rows for 16 dishes.
Pantry pull list and shopping list
Walk your own shelves first with a list of from-scratch staples, then shop with a list grouped the way a store is laid out.
Thawing the turkey
The USDA FSIS refrigerator and cold-water thaw tables, and a worksheet that turns your bird's weight into the morning it goes into the fridge.
Roasting at 325 F
The USDA FSIS timetable for stuffed and unstuffed turkeys, and a worksheet that tells you when the bird goes in.
The big day
A half-hour oven and stovetop schedule from 7 am to 7:30 pm, a day-of checklist, a leftovers card for the fridge and a page of notes for next year.
Just need the thaw date?
Our free turkey thaw and roast time calculator works out when your turkey goes into the fridge and roughly when it goes into the oven, from the same USDA FSIS tables.

A note on food safety
This planner organizes your cooking. It does not decide whether food is safe. Every turkey figure in it is copied from USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service pages and cited on the page. A turkey is done when a food thermometer reads 165 F in the innermost part of the thigh and wing and the thickest part of the breast, not when a timetable says so (USDA FSIS).
Questions
Is it fillable?
Yes. Every box and line takes typing on a computer or tablet, and every tick box can be ticked. It prints cleanly too, with inside pages that are light on ink.
Does it include recipes?
No. It plans and times the recipes you already cook. Write your own dishes into the menu and the scaler works out how much to make.
How was it made?
We planned these pages, chose what goes on them, checked every figure against its source and looked over every page before listing. We used AI tools to help lay out the pages and draft the wording. Every fact is checked against a source listed in the PDF.
What if something is wrong with it?
Write to [email protected] within 7 days and we will fix it, send a working copy or refund you. Downloads can't be returned, so we don't refund a change of mind. The refund policy has the details.
